NOT ON THE FIRST DATE
By Richard Hirshen March 31, 2003

Nine short years
Since we sipped that first elixir
Looking through each other’s eyes
Mesmerized in one short night
I’m smiling now as I smiled then
Because you picked me, not the other guys
I thought I was a clever fox
And you would be my hen
When we got into the car
To go and see my place
I shook I was so nervous
And beads of sweat ran down my face
I knew that night it was true love
My heart pounded in my chest
You told me that you didn’t share
I imagined removing your underwear
I too promised that I would not share
So who was fox and who was hen?
Then you told me sorry, not tonight
So again I ask you, when?
